Joining me in conversation today is Musician, Songwriter, Artist and Published Author, Jason O’ Toole. We discuss everything from his new book of Poetry, Spear of Stars to his choice of publishers, The Red Salon to his musical background and culture of folk punk and New York Hardcore scene. We also discuss nature of the “Supernatural” or “Paranormal” experiences that helped inspire the book plus our own insights and philosophies  as to why they happened.

Spear of Stars CoverSpear of Stars of (S.O.S.) is a collection of delicious esoteric goodies that keeps on giving. Every poem leads you down another rabbit hole. I could spend days decoding each of them. My personal favorites were “A World Without Saints” and “Freya Awaits”.

A selected poem that bears the books title:

She dreams of her earths
On this, our earth
She keeps a husband
Called Night
She lights his pipe
With a spark of silence
He dips his bread
Into a bowl of blood
She reclines like a sunset
She is all sunsets
& the light that makes shadow
In the morning she melts his teeth of ice
On another earth she makes it rain diamonds
Which slice the eyes of storms
There are no donkeys carrying kings
No messianic signs
No false gods to destroy
No fool to shout
“Not Her, but I”
One earth, the first and last
She hides in her belly
Not a babe to be born
No sphere
A web of scars
Pierced as she was by her spear of stars

“Jason O’Toole has deftly sculpted into form a collection of poems both magical in essence and haunting in effect.”
—Robert N. Taylor, author of Remnants of a Season

“History, myth and the never-ending mystery of creation resonate in every finely crafted line from Spear of Stars. Transit umbra, lux permanent!” —Freddy Alva, author of Urban Styles: Graffiti in New York Hardcore

JASON O'TOOLEAs the vocalist for the legendary New York Hardcore Punk band Life’s Blood, Jason O’Toole became known for his cutting, intelligent lyrics. O’Toole has relocated to the Boston, MA area after years of living in the American South where he worked as a police detective. A descendant of a “witch and paranormal” executed in New England, O’Toole has a calling to investigate the unknowable, recover lost traditions, and his poetry is informed by magick, folklore, and myth.
